circumcision

circumcision

It is originally a custom in wich a boy becomes a man , but for pratical reasons, in the Madagascar of to day, it is practised already with boys of very young age (two to three years on the high plateau) .

It is practised during the dry and cold season. Depending on the family and the tribe, people go to the doctor or still celebrate it following the tradition such as Sambatra in Mananjary (east cost )

The circumcision is usually celebrated with a family party . If you see a parade along the street with people carrying sugarcanes , banana leaves and a Malagasy flag ; this usually is a circumcision party.

  1. I know a lot about these parades on the streets…People get easily drunk and forget about the real reason for all this, even sometimes they forget about the baby who is suffering a lot..
Great first post and welcome to FBC !

  2. Dear colleagues,

hello, i am writing to tell you that “Hot Spot Films” Documentary Production House (www.hotspotfilms.com/en/index.html) is going to produce documentaries on Madagascar.

The Research Unit of “Hot Spot Films” is looking for someone living in Madagascar who can propose us ideas suitable to documentary series and who assumes the task of the Field Researcher. Once the Research Unit had agreed on one of the idea, the Researcher will be asked to develop the idea into a complete research file (research sources, archive materials, human testimonies, , etc.). at the end he should also carry on collaborating and coordinating with the director during the recording phase.
these documentaries are distributed on three types of series:

The first concerns “Testimonies Against Humanity”,
the second series instead is called “African Stories”, A documentary series aims at exploring the African causes and issues, whether historical, political, economic, social or cultural topics.
the third one is entitled “People of the South”, this documentary series aims at identifying political, cultural, faith, and historical features of the third world people, etc.
We would be much happy to collaborate with you.
if you know someone who is interested in fulfilling this task, please contact me by replying on the following email addresses:
